So what are they doing there in the first place?

When photographers Jayne and Chris Birchall were shooting the 2008 Cheeky Chappies Charity Calendar last autumn, one of their subjects had to pull out at the last minute.

They later discovered that the reason was a directive from his employers that fire-fighters were now banned from such projects. So Chris decided to get a little cheeky himself and using his digital retouching skills, planted a number of “firemen” on some of the pages of the calendar.

“At first it was just a bit of fun” said Chris, “wondering how many people would actually even notice these firemen lurking in the background of some of the shots”. But now the couple have decided to run a competition with a prize to anyone correctly identifying which pages they appear on.

There a four “firemen” in all. They appear in many forms, but are identifiable by the fireman’s helmets they are wearing.
